Community guidelines

Be yourself

People want to work with the real you. Use your own photo or one of our illustrated avatars, and describe your studies and skills honestly. Don't create fake accounts or pretend to be someone else, even as a joke. One person, one account.

Respect everyone

Orbitus brings together students from many countries, cultures and fields. Disagree politely and take a break if a conversation gets heated. We don't allow harassment, threats, bullying, intimidation, doxxing or hate based on ethnicity, nationality, religion, gender, sexual orientation, disability, health or similar traits. If someone isn't a good fit, just pass — report them only if they break the rules.

Collaborate, don't hit on people

Orbitus is not a dating app. Don't send romantic or sexual advances, messages or images. A match, a friend request or a group invitation is an invitation to work together, nothing more.

Leave politics out, keep it about the work

Orbitus is a space built for studying and working together. It is politically neutral and does not support or encourage political discussion. Our members come from many countries with many different views, so to help everyone focus on the work, please don't post political content in your profile, team posts or group chats, and don't use Orbitus — including private chats — to canvass, fundraise or recruit for political parties, candidates or movements, or to organise rallies, marches, petitions or other political activities. Academic discussion is fine: political science, public policy, international relations, law or history can all be explored as part of a course, research, a paper or a competition — just stay on topic and respect different views. What users say represents only themselves, not Orbitus.

Keep it honest

Don't offer or ask for exam-taking, ghost-writing or other academic cheating. Don't post fake opportunities, fake teams or credentials you don't have. Give credit to the people you work with.

Protect privacy

Don't post your phone number, address or other contact details in your public profile or posts — share them privately once you trust someone. Never share other people's personal information, photos, messages or screenshots without their permission.

No selling, no spam

Don't advertise, sell products or services, recruit for paid schemes, ask for money or investments, or use Orbitus to grow followers elsewhere.

Keep it safe and legal

No violent, graphic or sexual content, nothing that involves minors, no promotion of self-harm, and nothing illegal — including drugs, weapons and counterfeit goods. If we believe someone is at risk of serious harm, we may contact the authorities.

Use Orbitus fairly

Don't use bots, scrapers or other tools to access Orbitus, don't submit false reports, and don't create a new account to get around a ban. Contact us only in the app or at support@orbitus.se — don't contact members of our team through personal channels about Orbitus, and never look up, share or misuse their personal information. Be respectful when you contact us.

What happens if someone breaks the rules

We use a mix of automatic checks and human review. Minor issues may get a warning; serious or repeated breaches can lead to content removal, feature limits or a permanent ban — including for behaviour towards other Orbitus users outside the app, such as at a meeting. You'll be told why, and you can appeal in the app.

Staying safe online

Never send money

Never send money, gift cards or crypto to someone you met on Orbitus, and never share bank or card details — even if they describe an emergency, a "registration fee" or an investment. Orbitus is free and will never ask you to pay. Transfers are almost impossible to reverse.

Check opportunities at the source

Before applying to a competition, programme or position, confirm it on the organiser's official website. Be wary of anyone who asks you to pay a private person to "secure a place", or who guarantees admission, awards or a job.

Watch out for scams aimed at students

Be careful with people claiming to be immigration officers, tuition or payment agents, landlords asking for deposits before a viewing, or employers who charge fees. Real institutions don't contact you this way through Orbitus.

Protect your personal information

Don't share your ID or passport number, student ID, home address, bank details or detailed daily routine with people you don't know well. We will never ask for your password.

Take your time before moving off Orbitus

Get to know someone before switching to another messaging app or sharing your social media. People with bad intentions often try to move the conversation elsewhere quickly.

Be careful with links and files

Don't open unexpected links or files, and never enter your Orbitus login on another site.

Report anything suspicious

Requests for money, fake profiles, harassment, threats, spam or anyone who seems under 18 — block them and report them in the app. Reports are confidential.

Meeting in person

Many teams eventually meet face to face. Meetings between users are arranged by the users themselves, not by Orbitus — so plan them with care.

  • Get to know people first. Chat in the app and consider a video call before meeting.
  • Meet in public. Choose a library, a campus café or a booked study room. Avoid private homes for first meetings, and meet as a group if you can.
  • Tell someone. Let a friend know where you're going and who you're meeting, and consider sharing your location with them.
  • Plan your own travel. Make sure you can get there and leave on your own.
  • Know your limits. Alcohol and drugs affect your judgement. Keep an eye on your drink and your belongings.
  • Trust your instincts. If something feels wrong, leave. You don't owe anyone an explanation.
  • Respect boundaries. No one should feel pressured — about the project, money or anything else.

Academic integrity and credit

  • Agree early. Before you start, agree on roles, deadlines, credit, authorship and who owns the results — and write it down, even in the group chat.
  • Know the rules. Check what your university, course or competition allows when it comes to collaboration and using others' work.
  • Respect confidentiality. Don't share other people's work, unpublished research, data or code without permission.
  • Keep your own copies of important files and decisions.

Getting help

  • In an emergency, call the local emergency number (112 in the EU) first.
  • Report and block in the app: tap Report on a profile, post, group or message. A person reviews every report.
  • Email us at support@orbitus.se. If someone shared an intimate image of you without consent, we remove it within 48 hours of a valid request.
  • Get support. Your university's student health or counselling service can help. Victim support lines such as 116 006 are available in many EU countries, including Sweden.
